Around the ChiloƩ archipelago.
Curanto, a local dish from Chiloe, comprising mussels, clams, sausages and smoked pork with potatoes and potato cakes, cooked in a hole in the ground over hot stones and covered with the versatile nalca leaves. Absolutely delicious!
A real-life rodeo party in Chonchi, Chiloe complete with a jazz fusion band and Huasos from the north of Chile. “Oh, jazz fusion bands are everywhere in Chiloe,” said the local guys who dragged us along with them to the party. It was a strange evening, as me, a lesbian couple from England and 3 local guys who worked in our hostel crammed ourselves into what was basically a 2-seater car for the 20km journey to Chonchi. The music was great, the wine and empaƱadas was delicious and cheap and the huasos were terrific dancers. I think the best experiences are always the most spontaneous.
